Warm up on finding circumference of a circle given area. Continued "popcorn tube" problem where 8.5"x11" rectangular paper is turned into a cylinder two different ways and creates two different volumes. Key part of this problem is to realize one measurement is the circumference and then solve for radius. Looked at why volume of a cylinder is πr^2*h because a cylinder can be thought of as a stack of circles each with area πr^2 and the stack is "h" units in height. Then looked at similarities of cylinders and cones and saw a video demonstration as to why volume of a cone is 1/3πr^2*h

Warm up on area and perimeter of a triangle on the coordinate plane. Went over p. 477 hw in detail. Did two problems as relate to volume of cylinders and cones in application problems using partner talks. Then examined the "coin carpet" to find the cost of tiling our classroom in pennies. This dealt with unit conversion as well as recognizing that a tile of circles leaves left-over space which can be accounted for by considering the circumscribed square.
