TAKE NOTES ON THESE PROBLEMS PLEASE. We will discuss these topics on class on Thursday/Friday classes, in addition to doing some test-prep questions like these. As you're working the problems while watching the video, try to make note of which properties are being used and developed. Remember that a property can be a theorem or postulate that Please watch the following video ahead of next week's class. Some of it is review, but it will be helpful for the tasks we will do in class. Remember to take notes as you watch the tutorials. (not quite A Game of Thrones, sorry)
1. Remake (Alternate: here) 2. Tangrams 3. Crossword and Frog Swamp How can we know when two triangles are the same? Well, when they are the same, six things match up: 3 pairs of sides and 3 pairs of angles. And by match up, we mean they're the same measure.
But we need not check all six parts each time. We've just learned some shortcuts that speed up the process. The shortcuts are congruence postulates, and they come from logical reasoning. Do you remember what they're called? There are four rules that work, and two rules that don't work. (Hint: one of the faulty ones is called the "donkey postulate." Use it to justify congruence and you'll look like a real...jerk.) Let's practice! 1. What are the postulates? 2. Using the postulates 3. Are they the same? Then what? REMEMBER: Congruent triangles don't just have the same numbers. The same numbers have to be in the right place, the right location, the right orientation. |
